Audi A4 Maintenance Schedule

The Audi A4 offers German luxury, precision, and performance. As an entry-level luxury vehicle, the A4 is loaded with interior features, and most come with Audi’s famous Quattro all-wheel drive, making them a great car for the winters here in Coeur d’Alene.

European cars have a reputation for being unreliable, and Audi’s are no exception. Many issues are the result of improper or infrequent maintenance. Following a strict service schedule for you’re A4 will keep it running strong and reliably. Whether have a high mileage used A4 or a new one, it’s important to follow the factory recommended service schedule, and in some cases perform more frequently than recommended.

Oil and Filter Change

Oil changes are one of the most basic, but arguably the most important regular service item on any car. From the factory, Audi recommends an oil change every 10,000 miles. However, to prevent excessive wear and tear on engine internals, performing an oil change every 5000-7500 miles on your A4 is better depending on your driving style. If you spend a lot of time on the highway, you can get less frequent changes. If you drive in stop-and-go traffic or for short distances, more frequent oil changes are beneficial.

Transmission Service

It’s recommended to perform a transmission service if your A4 is equipped with an automatic transmission. Transmission service intervals vary depending on the type of transmission your vehicle has.

Tiptronic Transmission

For A4’s equipped with a Tiptronic transmission, a full service should be performed every 50-60 thousand miles.

S-Tronic/DSG Transmission

Audi offered the S-Tronic direct shift gearbox in certain years of the A4. DSG transmissions should be serviced every 40 thousand miles.

If you are unsure which type of transmission your car has, our service advisors can help determine which service you need.

Differential Service

Audi’s are well known for their all-wheel-drive systems. While Audi uses the name “Quattro to refer to its AWD, they use a variety of different systems under that branding. The A4 uses a Torsen Center Differential to control the power sent to the wheels. A differential services should be performed every 40-50 thousand miles.

Cabin Air Filter

The cabin air filter keeps the air entering your vehicle through the heat/air conditioning system clean. We recommend changing the cabin air filter on your A4 once a year.

Engine Air Filter

Much like the cabin air filter, the engine air filter keeps the air entering your engine clean. Over time the engine air filter will become dirty and clogged with dirt, dust, and other particles. This can hinder engine performance. This filter should also be changed yearly.

Brake Fluid

The brake fluid on your A4 should be flushed and replaced every two years regardless of mileage to keep moisture levels down and prevent corrosion in the brake lines. Fresh brake fluid ensures your car will stop when you need it to.

Spark Plugs

Replacing the spark plugs in your A4 will keep it performing at its best. Plan on having them replaced every 50,000 miles.
